Scholarship Program for Sons and Daughters of Members

Award Background
The ISM-Pittsburgh Board of Directors has allocated funds for three $2,500 scholarships to assist members’ sons/daughters during the 2010-2011 academic year. A Scholarship Awards Committee consisting of no less than three ISM-Pittsburgh members is responsible for selecting the awardees. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to not grant scholarships if, in their opinion, fewer than three qualifying applications are received.

• Scholarship recipients and their parents are honored during ISM-Pittsburgh’s regular dinner meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.
• Scholarship funds are disbursed directly to the institution where the awardees will be attending.
• Scholarship awards must be used to defray the cost of tuition and fees.

Eligibility and Application Requirements
The eligible applicant must be accepted or enrolled as a full time student at any accredited college or university that meets his/her degree and career objectives. High school students applying must graduate in 2009. College students applying can be can be graduate or undergraduate.
Applicants must be either a son or daughter of a regular or associate member of ISM-Pittsburgh. The member must be in good standing for at least three years as of January 1, 2010. Preferential consideration will be provided to sons and daughters of members who volunteer for service within the organization (e.g., member of Board of Directors, member of active committees, dinner meeting registration table staffer) .

Applicants must have taken the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and must arrange for one set of scored reports to accompany the application form. College Board scores as recorded on the high school transcript are also acceptable. The minimum SAT score required to apply for the scholarship is 900.

Applicants graduating high school must include a high school transcript with the application form. Currently enrolled applicants must include a copy of their most recent college transcript (unofficial copies are acceptable). The minimum gradepoint average required to apply for the scholarship is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

Applicants must answer the following essay question: Explain why you have chosen your particular field of study and describe how your educational pursuits will assist in achieving short and/or long-term career goals. The essay must be typed, double spaced, and should not exceed 750 words.

Applicants must obtain two letters of recommendation from (1) a high school principal, guidance counselor, or current teacher, and (2) a character reference that has known the applicant for at least three years.

Applicants must provide a listing of already awarded college aid including other scholarships and grants.
Other documentation that should be submitted with the application includes additional letters of recommendation; evidence of school awards, activities, and honors; and evidence of community service or activities.

Selection Procedures
Selection criteria used by the Scholarship Awards Committee includes class rank, SAT scores, high school grades, essay response and involvement in school/community activities, not necessarily in this order. Other relevant criteria may be considered by the committee at its sole and absolute discretion.

Obligation of Award Recipient
The award recipient is expected to maintain high academic and personal standards. Evidence of acceptance to a college or university shall be furnished to ISM-Pittsburgh prior to awarding the scholarship.

Scholarship Program for Duquesne University Students Pursuing Supply Chain Management Degree

$2,500 Scholarship for Undergraduate or Graduate Degree Program Study

Award Background
The ISM-Pittsburgh Board of Directors has allocated funds for one $2,500 scholarship to assist a Duquesne University student who is pursuing the Supply Chain Management undergraduate or graduate degree. Candidates may apply for the award each year but may only win the award one time.

A Scholarship Awards Committee consisting of no less than three ISM-Pittsburgh members is responsible for selecting the awardees. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to not grant scholarships if, in their opinion, no qualifying applications are received.

*Scholarship funds are disbursed directly to the student’s University account. Scholarship awards must be used to defray the cost of tuition and fees.

Selection Procedures
The selection criterion used by the Scholarship Awards Committee includes entrance exam scores, grades, school/community activities, and involvement in the profession. While academic achievement is of paramount importance, extra school and profession related activities weigh heavily in the decision process.

Eligibility
The eligible applicant must have completed at least one semester as a full time student in Duquesne University’s Supply Chain Management degree program (undergraduate or graduate). Applicants must include a current University transcript with the application form (Unofficial copies are acceptable). Applicants, if employed, must not be eligible for partial or full employer paid tuition reimbursement.

Applicants must obtain two letters of recommendation from (1) a School of Business faculty member, and (2) any other University faculty member.

Applicants must provide a listing of additional college aid awarded (other scholarship awards, grants)
Other optional documentation that may be submitted with the application include additional letters of recommendation; evidence of school awards, activities, and honors; and evidence of service to or experience in the purchasing/supply chain management profession.

Obligation of Award Recipient
The award recipient is expected to maintain high academic and personal standards. Scholarship recipient is also required to be involved as a “student member” in ISM-Pittsburgh for at least one year either in advance of or following the award. (Student must apply for membership prior to April 2010 so that student’s member ID# can be included on the Application Form).  “Involvement” can include attendance at least two monthly dinner meetings, service on an ISM-Pgh committee, or contributions to the monthly newsletter, Inside ISM-Pittsburgh.

INSTITUTE FOR SUPPLY MANAGEMENT- PITTSBURGH
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

HISTORY: The Institute for Supply Management-Pittsburgh is a not-for profit corporation organized in 1915. The association was founded to serve the education, certification and networking needs of Pittsburgh supply management professionals. This scholarship, established in 2002, will be awarded to two (2) June 2010 graduates of the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

DESCRIPTION: The Institute for Supply Management-Pittsburgh scholarship is a one-year award and will be awarded in the amount of $2,500.00 per student.
CRITERIA: The Institute for Supply Management-Pittsburgh scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to help students complete college and university studies in the Arts and Sciences. In addition:

1. The scholarship is to be used for tuition, not for general expenses.
2. It is a one-year award for a graduating senior of the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
3. Academic achievement and need will be given equal consideration.

PROCEDURE:
1. Completed applications for this scholarship must be returned to Student Services, Room 448,
Pittsburgh Public Schools, 341 South Bellefield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 no later than March 1, 2010.


2. Each application must be accompanied by a transcript, which shows the grade point average, rank in class, College Board scores, the required essay, and two counselor or administrator letters of recommendation. A copy of the acceptance letter from the college or university the student is planning to attend should also accompany the application.

3. The Scholarship Committee of ISM-Pittsburgh will have final review consideration over these applications. Announcement of the successful candidates and award of the scholarships will be at the ISM-Pittsburgh Dinner Meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.
